Detection and response has been recognized for over a decade as a necessary pillar of effective security strategy, but 2025 shows a growing trend that it's increasingly becoming mandatory. On March 31, the new rules introduced in PCI DSS 4.0 for automated audit log review shift from a recommended “best practice” to a mandate. Similar updates focused on continuous monitoring, log review and threat detection went into effect for government contractors regulated under CMMC 2.0 at the end of 2024.
